LOANSOME DOC DELIVERS
Loansome Doc is a component of the National Library of Medicines (NLMs) MEDLINE database. MEDLINE is a bibliographic database covering medicine, nursing, dentistry, the health care system and preclinical sciences and contains more than 14 million citations from more than 4,800 biomedical journals published in the United States and abroad.
Through Loansome Doc, ADA members can place orders for articles from the ADA Library as they search the dental literature in MEDLINE using NLMs PubMed search engine. Orders are automatically forwarded to the Library, which then delivers the requested articles by e-mail or postal mail.
Becoming a Loansome Doc user requires completing a simple two-step process. First, register with the ADA Library by filling out a service agreement, which can be found on ADA.org ("www.ada.org/members/library/searches.asp"). Then register with the NLM on the PubMed site ("www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi"); registration is free.
Once registered, users can search the literature, select articles and place an order, which will be fulfilled by the ADA Library for its usual $5 per article fee. If the Library cannot supply an article, the request will be canceled unless the user has authorized the Library to obtain articles from another library. In that case, another library will supply the article directly, usually for a fee of $10$12.

ONLINE HELP FOR SMALL BUSINESSES
Billed as "a definitive, one-stop source to compliance assistance resources from all federal regulatory agencies," Business.gov provides access to compliance information and guidelines from some 100 federal agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of the Treasury/Internal Revenue Service, Federal Trade Commission, Drug Enforcement Agency and U.S. Department of Labor/Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
At the core of Business.gov is a search engine capable of organizing and retrieving compliance assistance information published on federal agency Web sites. Searches can be configured to cover all federal agencies or specific business areas or industries. The site also includes a "Business Resource Library" providing links to business information and services from across federal, state and local governments.
To make use of the resources offered by the revamped Business.gov Web site, visit "www.business.gov".
For ADA members who are looking for a fast, easy way to conduct research online, the ADA Librarys Loansome Doc service can deliver articles from the dental literature right to your door or electronic mailbox.
With the goal of helping small businesses stay up-to-date and in compliance with federal regulations, the U.S. Small Business Administration in September launched a retooled version of its Business.gov Web site.
