KEEPING FAST COMPANY
While the amount of information out there continues to swell each day, the formats in which this information is served up continue to increase in complexity. Web sites are more graphically appealing, advertising continues to grow more sophisticated, rich media formats offer music and video on demand, and many documents previously available by postal mail are moving to cyberspace.
All these factors conspire to make Internet connection speed, or throughput, more important than ever. And recent research from the Pew Internet & American Life Project shows that more than one-half of all adults in the United States who go online have discovered that broadband Internet access can feed their need for speed.
As of March 1, according to Pew, more than 68 million adult Americans were logging onto the Internet via a broadband connection either at home or work, representing a growth of 60 percent since March 2003.
For the majority of Internet users, "broadband" refers to either cable or digital subscriber line, or DSL, access. While cable continues to be the most popular form of broadband service, DSL subscriptions have surged in the last year, the Pew research said, growing to a 42 percent market share compared with 28 percent in March of last year.
If you havent yet made the move to broadband Internet access, you may be missing out on an ever-growing array of rich online content that requires a high-speed connection. To learn more about your options for joining the world of broadband Internet access, visit "www.broadbandreports.com".
