Dr. Donald E. Demkee, Wooster, Ohio, was elected chair of the University of Akron’s board of trustees.

Dr. Howard R. Gamble, Sheffield, Ala., received the Distinguished Service Award from the Academy of General Dentistry. Other recipients are Dr. Eric J. Hovland, Destrehan, La., Thaddeus Weclew Fellowship; and Dr. Theodore T. Fortier, Los Angeles, Humanitarian Award.

Dr. Eric J. Hovland, Destrehan, La., received the Edgar Coolidge Award from the American Association of Endodontists. Dr. Leif K. Bakland, Loma Linda, Calif., received the Louis Grossman Award. Dr. Stephen J. Clark, Louisville, Ky.; and Dr. Karl Keiser, Boerne, Texas, received the Edward Osetek Educator Awards.

Dr. William J. Meyers, Columbus, Ohio, received the I.B. Bender Lifetime Educator Award from the American Association of Endodontists.

Dr. Robert B. Stevenson, Columbus, Ohio, received the William Butler Community Service Award from the University of Miami Alumni Association.
