HAVE YOU SEEN JADA ONLINE?
Have you used this new feature yet? According to ADA.org usage statistics, many of you have. If you havent, stop by "www.ada.org/jada" to see all that JADA Online has to offer.
In addition to the current issue of The Journal, every issue dating back through January 1998 is available through JADA Online. The JADA archive includes every article, report, column and feature, complete with all accompanying photographs, graphics and references.
Each article can be downloaded as either a portable document format, or PDF, file or in hypertext markup language, or HTML. PDF files, which require Adobe Inc.s free Acrobat Reader software to view and print, present an exact replica of the article as it appeared in the printed JADA issue, while the HTML format, which can be opened with any Web browser, offers a simplified presentation that downloads quickly.
Finding specific articles from JADA is easy. You can view the table of contents from a particular issue by following the "Archives" link in the left-hand navigation bar on any JADA page, or you can choose "Search JADA" to find articles on specific topics.
Searches can be performed by article title, keyword, author name, year or issue, as well as any combination of these parameters. In addition to searching the JADA archives, visitors also can search the dental journal holdings of ingenta inc., the firm that administers the JADA Online archive. ingentas dental holdings currently include 24 international journals, each offering article abstracts free of charge. Most of these journals charge a fee for downloading of entire articles.
Full access to JADA Online is one of the benefits of ADA membership and also is offered to JADA subscribers. Visit "www.ada.org/jada" to see what JADA Online can do for you.
MODEL SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT
Designed to give dentists the information they need to effectively negotiate contracts with software vendors, the model license is intended primarily for a dentist who pays a single fixed license fee for the right to use a licensed software product.
The model license is annotated with comments that explain technical and legal elements in lay terms and point out differences between the model language and the less favorable terms often found in vendors standard software license agreements.
"The provisions in this agreement are those that dentists should attempt to negotiate with their software vendor," says Peter Sfikas, ADA general counsel. "Its generally more equitable to dentists than what software vendors usually provide to their customers."
ADA members can obtain this document, in Microsoft Word format, from the Law, Ethics and Risk Management content area at "www.ada.org/members/prac/law/bizprac.html" or by sending an e-mail to "legaldivision{at}ada.org".
JADA has been available in full-text, electronic format on ADA.org since June.
ADA members considering buying a dental practice management software product can download the ADA Model Software License and Support Agreement from ADA.org to help evaluate proposed agreements with software vendors.
