To help you meet the challenges of the new millennium, The Journal of the American Dental Association presents this special JADA supplement, "Practice Success in the 21st Century."

In these pages, some of dentistry’s best-known clinicians share with you their thoughts on a broad spectrum of dental topics. The articles in this supplement provide an in-depth exploration of the trends and developments that will affect your dental practice in the years ahead. They spotlight such diverse issues as patient expectations, disease prevention, restorative care, esthetic dental services and practice management, as well as developments in specialty care, including periodontics, endodontics and prosthodontics.

What’s more, they address the perennial questions confronting all health care professionals: What do patients need and want? And how will we, as caregivers, satisfy those needs and wants in the decades to come?

We wish to acknowledge the contribution of DENTSPLY International, which made this special supplement possible through an educational grant collected from each of its manufacturing divisions. In particular, we also wish to acknowledge the contributions of Linda C. Niessen, D.M.D., M.P.H., M.P.P., DENTSPLY’s vice president for Clinical Education. Without Dr. Niessen’s tireless efforts and devotion to duty, this project would not have been possible.

This special report, which gives you an opportunity to earn continuing education credits, is meant to be kept and studied as a cutting-edge reference on modern dentistry. We hope you find it thought-provoking and informative.

But most of all, we hope you find it useful.
