In the March JADA news item "Study Shows Link Between Antidepressants and Bruxism," the following statement was incorrect: "Researchers note that the family of antidepressants known as selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, work by suppressing the brain chemical dopamine." It should have read, "Researchers note that use of the family of antidepressants known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, leads to high central nervous system levels of serotonin, which can produce an inhibition of dopamine pathways, likely in the extrapyramidal system."
