Dr. Jane C. Atkinson, Washington, was appointed assistant dean for clinical affairs of the University of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental Surgery.
Dr. Susan A. Bittner, San Jose, Calif., received the 2000 Medallion of Distinction award from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. Other recipients were Drs. Eddie Hayashida and Frank A. Brucia, both of San Francisco.

Dr. Gary F. Guest, San Antonio, was named a fellow of the Leadership Institute of the American Association of Dental Schools.
Dr. James L. Gutmann, Dallas, was named the 2000 Marquette University Dental Alumnus of the Year. Dr. Gutmann also was elected president of the American Association of Endodontics.
Dr. Marc Herman, Woodbury, N.Y., was named president of the American Academy of Dental Practice Administration.
