I would like to respond to Dr. Meskins editorial in April JADA. I can excuse Dr. Meskins ignorance in not knowing what an oral pathologist does. But I cannot excuse his arrogance in suggesting that the value of oral pathologists to an institution is so insignificant that a school doesnt need to "own and pay for a full complement of, for example, oral pathologists" (whatever that means).
At our institution, we teach three graduate oral pathology courses, two general pathology courses, two oral pathology courses for dental hygiene students, three oral pathology courses for the dental students, and a variety of lectures in the undergraduate and resident medical programs. We also provide clinic coverage and answer requests for consults. What part of my time would Dr. Meskin suggest I share with other schools, online or otherwise?
