I am disappointed by your publication of the article "Improving Treatment Plan Acceptance Using Staff-Driven Diagnostic Data Collection" (November JADA). Both patients and dentistry, as a profession, are done a disservice by the authors suggestion that a diagnostic data collection be delegated to staff members.
I am concerned about the ability and qualifications of support staff to make observations of phenomena that I, as an experienced dentist, sometimes find very subtle. I fear that the suggestions you have published place dentistry on a slippery slope.
