Author’s response

I appreciate Dr. Latta’s input on the subject.

In extensive research at Clinical Research Associates, it has been shown that there are many potential challenges with fast-curing lights. Some of these problems are related to initiator systems in the resins, including bonding agents, sealants, flowables and conventional restorative resins.

I agree that caution must be used with fast-curing lights until we are able to observe their results clinically for a period of years. As we all know, laboratory research is a great help in predicting clinical outcome. However, clinical outcome is in fact only known by true clinical activity. At this time, dentists using fast-curing lights are reporting very little or no negative effect.
